Ours sure is! It’s National Chocolate Ice Cream Day and as you could guess we are excited to celebrate.
1. Award Winning Chocolate Ice Cream
In 2022 Chapman’s Premium The Only Chocolate Ice Cream was internationally voted Best Chocolate Ice Cream at the International Ice Cream Consortium. Competing against 13 other countries, our Premium chocolate ice cream won based on overall taste, creaminess, and visual appearance.
Though our The Only Chocolate has only been on the market since 2019, we’ve been in the market of producing chocolate ice cream for 50 years now! When Chapman’s first began in 1973, Dutch Chocolate was one of fifteen flavours offered at the time. Since then, we have only found ways to improve. From ice cream to sandwiches and cones, we now make 25 products featuring chocolate ice cream.
2. Chocolate is a Classic
Did you know that chocolate ice cream is older than the most popular flavour – vanilla?
By over a century to be exact! If you track down the origins of chocolate ice cream, it dates all the way back to the 1690s in Naples, Italy.
While it may seem like Chapman’s is new to the game compared to the origins of chocolate ice cream, we’ve been crafting our original Dutch Chocolate ice cream with the same nationally loved cocoa blend since 1973, now known as Markdale Creamery.
Chapman’s varieties of chocolate ice cream have continued to make an impression in the industry. In fact, Chapman’s Premium The Only Chocolate was one of the top three most consumed 2L chocolate ice creams in Canada in 2022. In the same year, our Vanilla and Chocolate Super ice cream cones took the top spot as the most popular chocolate ice cream novelty across the country.
3. Our Chocolate
Did you know that in 2022 alone, we used almost 2 million kilograms of chocolate? To put that into perspective, that’s the same weight as almost four hundred elephants!
It is important to us that we provide you with quality products, which is why our chocolate is sourced from a broad range of countries to deliver you the very best.
Depending on the type of chocolate we’re sourcing, from cocoa powder to liquid chocolate, we use the best product available from countries such as Belgium, Brazil, the Netherlands, Ivory Coast, and Australia. As you know, we like to use local ingredients as much as we can. That’s why we also use Canadian chocolate!
