Markdale, ON – The new Cardiac Rehabilitation Program offered by the South East Grey Community Health Centre (SEGCHC) will be ran out of Markdale and Dundalk and available to all residents of Grey and Dufferin Counties, as well as North Wellington. The cardiac rehabilitation team will include doctors, nurse practitioners, kinesiologists, physical and occupational therapists, dietitians and mental health specialists. This program will include up to 36 supervised sessions over the 12 weeks period.

“Local physicians have been asking for this program for some time. Once the word gets out, we anticipate filling a local gap in these services,” said Allan Madden, CEO of SEGCHC. “We are extremely grateful for the financial support Chapman’s has shown.”

“Cardiovascular disease is among the leading causes of mortality in Canada. Only a fraction of people in our area can get into cardiac rehabilitation programs, often because of transportation issues.” said Ashley Chapman, VP of Chapman’s Ice Cream. “A lot of our employees and their families are affected by cardiovascular problems. We are firmly committed to bringing more services like this to our area.”

According to Allan Madden, the majority of SEGCHC programs are designed to meet the needs of aging seniors living in and around Grey County. The centre offers all programs free of charge and to any resident regardless of who their family doctor is. Currently, SEGCHC is gearing up to host a Golf Tournament fundraiser, sponsored by Chapman’s, to raise awareness about the new cardio rehab initiative and raise more funds for this program.
