Study: Ice Cream For Breakfast Is Good For You

There is one thing we all have in common – we ALL love ice cream. It has a way of bringing people utter joy, invigorating us on hot summer days and comforting on quiet winter evenings. But ice cream always comes with a tinge of guilt, doesn’t it? And while moderation is important with any food, there are numerous benefits to ice cream that many of us aren’t aware of. Curious? Let’s dig a little bit deeper…

A study from Kyorin Univeristy in Tokyo, found that eating ice cream in the morning may improve alertness and mental performance.

Professor Yoshihiko Koga and his team analyzed the results of multiple clinical trials that measured brain activity after eating various foods in the morning. According to this study, frozen foods, particularly ice cream, had an “awakening” effect on the brain. As a result, study subjects showed higher alertness and quicker response. At the same time, ice cream stimulated high-frequency Alpha waves, that serve as connectors between conscious thinking and subconscious mind and responsible for calmness and relaxation. Consequently, study subjects showed less mental irritability.

According to The Daily Telegraph , this is not the first time scientists researched positive effects of ice cream. In 2005, the Institute of Psychiatry in London used brain imaging technology to prove that eating ice cream activated the same pleasure centers of the brain as winning money or listening to your favourite music.

Neuroscientists from London proved that ice cream makes us happy!

These research results don’t come as a surprise, as glucose is the main source of energy for all brain and red blood cells. A high glucose meal, such as a scoop of ice cream, can aid many psychological and physical processes. In addition, when you eat real ice cream, you can be sure that you are getting milk and cream into your system. These ingredients are great sources of calcium, vitamin D, riboflavin, vitamin A, and phosphorus – all essential for your health.

And while you might be skeptical about these findings, one thing is certain – there is no better dessert than ice cream!
